Every day you are exposed to numerous signs, posters, billboards, pictures or graphics on your television or computer. Knowledge of the elements and principles of design can enable you to better analyze the message being conveyed by the visual image. Being skilled in visual composition can allow you to successfully pursue additional training in the fields of graphic design, photography, film making, art, etc. at a post-secondary institution.
To be successful in the work world, you need to have hard and soft skills. Hard skills are technical skills related to your job, such as knowing how to create an effective visual display by applying the elements and principles of design in various media. Soft skills are the basic competencies you will practice throughout this course. Soft skills are what make you a good employee: having a positive attitude and being a creative problem solver, good team member, and skilled communicator.
