Element of Design - Colour

Colour comes from light. Within these light rays are all the rays of colours in the spectrum or rainbow. Shining a light into a prism will create a rainbow of colours because it separates the colour of the spectrum.

Different colours are a result of light rays comprising different wavelengths.
When light rays hit an object our eyes responds to the light that is reflected back and we see that colour.
If we have no light rays, then the result is black, or the absence of colour. If we combine all the different wavelengths of light, then we “see” the colour white. For example a blue ball reflects all the blue light rays but absorbs all other colour light rays.
