Course Project
Depending on your interests and aptitude, you may choose to demonstrate your learning in many different means. Please check with your teacher for more direction concerning what materials are available to meet your intentions for the final course project.
Materials
Graphic Arts – to successfully complete the course project, you will need access to a computer and a software application that will allow you to do either vector or bitmap drawings. All computers that have Microsoft Windows operating system installed will have a version of Microsoft Paint already installed. There are a multitude of freeware drawing applications such as Paint.Net, GIMP, etc. that can be downloaded and installed. Commercial software such as Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc. may be used if installed on your computer. Finally, there are now a growing number of websites such as Aviary’s Phoenix image editor or Raven vector editor, Google docs, etc. that offer on-line tools that will allow you to draw images on a website without having to install any software on your computer. Specific instructions on how to use any of the graphic drawing software should be obtained from your teacher or from the many tutorial websites that exist for each software program.
Photography – to successfully complete the course project, you will need access to a computer and a camera. The computer should have software installed that will allow you to manipulate photos such as Photoshop, Paint.Net, GIMP, etc. or access to web-based image editors such as Aviary’s Phoenix image editor. Your camera can be a digital camera, SLR camera or even a camera on your smartphone. The better or more advanced your camera, the greater flexibility will be available for you to explore various composition techniques. Finally, you will need to be able to transfer your images from your camera to your computer via a cable or card reader.
It is possible for you to combine several communication technologies in order to create your final visual composition. Please discuss the possibilities with your teacher.
